This PhET interactive gives you an opportunity to observe how energy transfers in a system.
Instructions
Launch the interactive and copy the handout.
Follow these interactive instructions:
Select "Systems."
Select Bike.
Select Generator.
Select Lightbulb.
Select the Energy Symbols.
Choose the speed of peddling.
Play the interactive.
“Feed” the bicyclist when requested.
Watch how energy transfers in the system. Each block with an “E” on it is not representing matter moving, but rather energy transfer in the system.
Use Part E of the handout to record your observations of energy using the interactive.
